In short

  • Meta renamed Advantage+ shopping campaigns to Advantage+ sales campaigns in 2025, and they now sit inside the regular Sales objective.
  • A sales campaign gets Meta's fullest automation when it uses Advantage+ audience, Advantage+ campaign budget, Advantage+ placements and Advantage+ destination together.
  • Defining audience segments for engaged audiences and existing customers lets you see how much spend goes to new versus returning buyers.
  • Creative volume and variety do most of the targeting work, so plan a steady supply of videos, statics and catalog ads.
  • Clean Conversions API tracking and a synced Shopify catalog are prerequisites, not nice-to-haves.

Advantage+ sales campaigns are Meta's automated campaigns for online sales, and they are what Advantage+ shopping campaigns became after Meta renamed them in 2025. To set one up, create a campaign with the Sales objective, use Advantage+ audience, budget, placements and destination together, connect your Shopify catalog and Conversions API, and feed it a large, varied set of creatives.

In short:

  • Advantage+ shopping campaigns (ASC) are now called Advantage+ sales campaigns and live in the regular Sales objective.
  • Full automation comes from four settings: Advantage+ audience, Advantage+ campaign budget, Advantage+ placements and Advantage+ destination.
  • Set up audience segments so you can see how much spend goes to new versus existing customers.
  • Creative is the main lever you control. Plan for fresh ads every week.

What changed from Advantage+ shopping to Advantage+ sales

Advantage+ shopping campaigns launched as a separate, locked-down campaign type. In 2025 Meta rebuilt them into the standard Sales objective and renamed them Advantage+ sales campaigns. The idea is the same: let Meta's AI choose who sees which ad, where and at what budget. The difference is that you now build them in the familiar campaign flow, and they support multiple ad sets.

According to Meta for Business, a sales campaign gets its most advanced optimisation when it uses Advantage+ audience, Advantage+ campaign budget, Advantage+ placements and Advantage+ destination together. Turn one of those off and you are running a manual sales campaign with some automation, not a full Advantage+ campaign.

This matters because Meta's ad system now leans heavily on creative to decide who sees an ad. Our explainer on Meta Andromeda in 2026 covers why creative variety has replaced detailed targeting as the main lever.

Before you launch: the prerequisites

  • Conversions API running: in Shopify's Facebook & Instagram app, set data sharing to Enhanced or Maximum so purchases reach Meta from the server as well as the browser.
  • Catalog synced: products, prices, stock and images should sync from Shopify without errors. Out-of-stock items in catalog ads waste spend.
  • Purchase event verified: place a test order and confirm one deduplicated purchase appears in Events Manager.
  • Customer list ready: export customers from Shopify (or sync via the app) to build a customer list custom audience for segments and exclusions.
  • Enough creative: aim for at least 8 to 15 distinct ads at launch, across formats and angles.

If you are unsure whether your purchase data is accurate, fix that first. Our guide to Shopify tracking and attribution walks through the common gaps.

Step-by-step setup in Ads Manager

  1. Create a campaign and choose the Sales objective.
  2. Keep the Advantage+ settings on: Advantage+ campaign budget at campaign level, Advantage+ audience, Advantage+ placements and Advantage+ destination (your website and, where offered, Meta's shop or other destinations).
  3. Choose the conversion event: select your website dataset and the Purchase event.
  4. Set the budget: start with a daily budget that can buy several purchases a day (see the worked example below). Use the highest volume bid strategy first; add a cost-per-result goal only once you know your typical cost.
  5. Add audience suggestions (optional): you can suggest past purchasers or engagers to guide early delivery. Meta treats these as hints, not limits.
  6. Add your ads: mix single videos, statics, carousels and catalog ads. Upload several variants per concept.
  7. Set tracking parameters: add UTM parameters so Shopify and GA4 can report on the campaign.
  8. Publish and leave it alone for at least five to seven days unless something is clearly broken.

Worked example: sizing the budget

Say your break-even cost per delivered order is ₹800 and you expect Advantage+ to deliver purchases at around ₹650. Meta's delivery system tends to stabilise after about 50 optimisation events, per its learning phase guidance. So 50 x ₹650 = ₹32,500 a week, or roughly ₹4,600 a day. These figures are illustrative; use your own cost estimates.

Audience segments: see who you are really paying for

An automated campaign will happily spend on people who already know you, because they convert easily. That can inflate ROAS while bringing in few new customers. Meta lets you define audience segments in your ad account settings:

SegmentWho it includesWhat to use as the source
Existing customersPeople who have bought from youCustomer list custom audience from Shopify, plus purchasers from your pixel
Engaged audiencePeople who interacted but have not boughtWebsite visitors, Instagram and Facebook engagers
New audienceEveryone elseDefined automatically

Once segments are set, use the audience segment breakdown in reporting to see spend, purchases and revenue by group. Meta's controls for capping spend on existing customers have changed more than once since the 2025 rename, so check what your account currently offers. If it lacks a cap and too much budget is going to past buyers, add a separate manual sales campaign that excludes your customer list for pure prospecting.

Creative: the lever that matters most

With targeting automated, creative decides who sees your ads. Build a creative mix around distinct angles, not small tweaks of one ad.

Creative typeWhy include itIndia-specific idea
Founder or creator video (UGC style)Builds trust fastHindi or Hinglish voiceover for broader reach
Product demoShows the product workingShow packaging and delivery, which reduces COD hesitation
Offer-led staticConverts warm audiencesPrepaid discount or free shipping above a threshold
Catalog ad (Advantage+ catalog)Personalises products to browsingUse a clean frame with price and rating
Social proofReduces riskReal reviews with city names, with permission

Add three to five new ads each week and let weak ones fade rather than switching them off daily.

How to judge results

  • First week: check delivery, spend pacing and that purchases are recording. Do not judge ROAS yet.
  • Weeks two to four: compare cost per purchase with your target and review the audience segment breakdown.
  • Ongoing: judge on Shopify data: new-customer CAC, cost per delivered order and blended revenue against spend.

Watch COD closely. Meta optimises for purchases it receives, including COD orders that are later refused. If RTO climbs, push prepaid incentives at checkout.

How many campaigns should you run?

Fewer than you think. Every extra campaign splits your purchase data and makes each one learn more slowly. For a brand spending up to a few lakh rupees a month on Meta, a simple structure works well:

  1. One Advantage+ sales campaign carrying most of the budget, with all proven and new creatives.
  2. One testing campaign (optional) with a small budget, where new concepts get guaranteed spend before moving into the main campaign.
  3. One prospecting-only manual campaign (optional) that excludes your customer list, if the segment breakdown shows the main campaign leaning too heavily on past buyers.

Add campaigns only when you have a clear reason, such as a separate country, a very different product line or a festive-season offer with its own landing page.

Common mistakes

  • Launching with three ads and expecting the algorithm to find winners.
  • Editing budgets and creatives daily, which keeps the campaign relearning.
  • Running Advantage+ sales, a retargeting campaign and several interest campaigns all chasing the same buyers.
  • Celebrating ROAS without checking how much came from existing customers.

Get Advantage+ set up properly

Frequently asked questions

The product still exists under a new name. Meta renamed Advantage+ shopping campaigns to Advantage+ sales campaigns in 2025 and folded them into the standard Sales objective. When your sales campaign uses Advantage+ audience, campaign budget, placements and destination together, it runs with the full Advantage+ automation that the old shopping campaigns offered.

Enough to generate a steady stream of purchases. Meta's delivery system learns faster with around 50 optimisation events a week, so multiply your expected cost per purchase by 50 for a weekly guide. If you expect ₹700 per purchase, that is about ₹35,000 a week. Smaller budgets can work but learn more slowly and swing more.

It can lean towards them, because existing customers convert more easily. Define audience segments for existing customers and engaged audiences in Ads Manager so you can break down spend and results by segment. If too much goes to past buyers, run a separate manual campaign that excludes customer lists for pure prospecting.

For most D2C brands, broad targeting with strong creative now outperforms stacked interest audiences, because Meta's system finds buyers from creative signals. You can add audience suggestions to guide early delivery. Keep one or two manual campaigns for specific tests, such as a new product launch or an exclusion-based prospecting campaign.

They can, but Meta optimises for the purchase events it receives, including COD orders that are later refused. If your RTO rate is high, the system may find buyers who order but do not accept delivery. Encourage prepaid orders at checkout and measure cost per delivered order in Shopify, not just purchases in Ads Manager.
